LEGIS (Legal English International Skills) is a 4-week course which combines Legal English and General English. LEGIS is the ideal course before you start a new job or go on an international law course at university.

Every morning you will focus on your General English skills as part of our Adult English programme. In the afternoon (Monday to Thursday), you will develop your professional English skills for the following topics:

  • Contracts, Company Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Employment Law, Litigation, Intellectual Property  and International Law

What’s more, you’ll be able to take the Legal English International Test (LEGIT), which CAE has specially developed for students studying legal English. You will also receive a certificate to show that you have been successful on your LEGIS course.

We also offer a full-time Legal English course for law students and young lawyers.

Our Professional Centre English for Lawyers course is for experienced lawyers.

This is a skills-based English for Law course which offers participants a total of 60 hours of General English and 24 hours of training in specific legal English language and skills over a 4-week period. The programme is also suitable preparation for the Legal English International Test (LEGIT), which has been developed specifically for English for Law students at the Cambridge Academy of English and which participants take at the end of the course. All students receive a certificate and report stating their level of Legal English.

Legal English Skills

Professional language skills focusing on key areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing for the following topics:

  • Contracts, Company Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Employment Law, Litigation, Intellectual Property  and International Law

The Legal English International Test (LEGIT) is a key exam for law students and lawyers who need to show proficiency in legal English. The exam has been developed specifically for CAE and our students. All testing takes place at CAE, and test certificates are issued on completion of the course. CAE is particularly well-equipped to prepare students for LEGIT, having successfully taught a wide range of English for Law and Legal English exam courses for over 25 years.

  • English for Lawyers is for practising lawyers, takes place in our Professional Centre and includes 12.5 hours of 1:1 classes as well as Small Group teaching (maximum class size 4). You need to be at least 25 years old to study in the Professional Centre.
  • Legal English is for law students and newly qualified lawyers and consists of legal skills  and language for all 21 hours per week. The courses run in January and the summer, and are for 3 or 4 weeks. You work in a separate group from our other Adult courses. Maximum class size 12.
  • LEGIS is a 4-week introductory course for those planning to work in a legal setting, about to study Law at university or interested in legal English. You study 15 hours of General English each week and 6 hours of basic legal English. At the end you take our LEGIT test. Maximum class size 12.
