The best way to relax after an intensive day of language training is to take advantage of the activities in your weekly social programme. Cambridge has a lot to offer and you will be able to find plenty to do in a week or more. If you just want to relax and do your own thing, that is fine with us as well.
Cambridge Academy offers a full social programme both on site (included in your course fees) and with visits to Cambridge. There are also occasional mid-week London theatre trips. Every weekend there is a choice of excursions, including to Bath, London, Oxford, Windsor and Edinburgh. Our friendly social events organisers can help you arrange your own excursions if you are only here for a short while.
Cambridge Academy can also provide a weekly list of interesting talks, events, concerts and gigs in Cambridge, many of which are free. Don’t miss the beautiful Evensong at King’s College Chapel during University term time.
You will soon make friends with the other Professional Centre students. We provide free weekly cinema tickets so that you can visit Cambridge together to spend enjoyable evenings relaxing and chatting about the films you have seen.
Your programme also includes free membership of a local gym.
Home to one of the world’s greatest universities, Cambridge has a lively student culture during term time. Every day while the university is in session there are concerts, plays, meetings and lectures that are open to the public. There are several theatres in the city, concert halls, a rock music venue and a number of nightclubs. There are three cinemas, one of which shows foreign and minority-interest films. Many of the colleges have first-rate chapel choirs, who sing evensong every day during term time, and perform public concerts. The city has a wealth of bookshops, a fine museum (the Fitzwilliam) and a number of art galleries, one of the best of which is Kettle’s Yard. Many of the college and university buildings are architectural masterpieces, both ancient and modern.
Cambridge is the ideal place for your course. It is only 45 minutes from London by train. It is easy to go to a show in London and be back in Cambridge the same evening. Details of London events are available in the Social Activities office.
