CAE Stories: Meet Martin, our very own Motorsport Champion

As CAE celebrates our 50th anniversary year, Meet…

Martin Tomlinson- CAE consultant graphic designer since 1986! Martin has worked on numerous projects including publicity materials, re-branding, logos, brochures and the introduction and development of the CAE website. He continues to support us 40 years on!  CAE would simply not be the CAE we all know without Martin’s vision, creativity and professionalism.

Martin is also our very own CAE Motorsport Champion: a renowned motor racing artist, who specialises in painting life-like representations of racing and classic cars.

Martin has exhibited paintings at Silverstone, Le Mans, The Goodwood Festival of Speed and the RAC in London’s West End.  His work is owned by World Champions, famous racing drivers, racing car owners and collectors of exotic and classic cars. “Martin’s ability to capture the character of a car and his attention to detail is pure perfection.” Zak Brown, CEO McLaren Racing

Martin’s passion for racing started as a young boy, going to Crystal Palace and other motor races around Britain with his father and grandfather in the early 1950’s. At that time, collecting autographs was a hobby which briefly put youngsters in direct contact with the stars of their chosen genre or sport. Some collected the signatures of politicians or film stars, others cricketers or footballers, but Martin was only interested in racing drivers. He has the signatures and autographs to prove it!  Dreaming of driving himself Martin has raced, and even commentated at Brands Hatch! 

Since those early days, Farina and Ascari apart, Martin has seen every single F1 World Champion in action, and met many of the drivers in person. An incredible fact.

It is this background and passion that gives Martin the feel and in-depth knowledge of the sport – an absolute essential for a motor racing artist.
